June 2020, The fund raising effort to enable John to get Tradewinds able to sail /motor up the East Coast to its home in Vineyard Haven is coming along.
This engine came to John's attention and between donations and his own resources, the new motor is now his. It is a Volvo 50 JP MD With a 2.74:1 Hurth reduction transmission.
One engine down, a mast with rigging and centerboard repair and he will be on his way!
August 2020 John and a friend he worked with, Willie Mason, spent 10 weeks in Fall 2020 pulling out rotten wood, repositioning portholes, reinforcing the hull and generally getting rid of everything that needed replacement. The boat still needs a new mast, centerboard repair and engine restoration. After these three tasks are done, John will be able to sail/motor her north.
